Sara Thompson would like to be a famous writer when she grows up. For now, she is a working writer and editor, as well as a badge-bearing member of the Grammar Police. From winning writing contests and keeping journals, she has never strayed far from the written word personally, academically or professionally. Her words are used to communicate complicated ideas, observe the world, and persuade the reader.

     Pedigree:

  •         B.A. in English with a minor in Theater from Centre College in Danville, Kentucky
  •         M.A. in Literature from the University of Louisville. Her creative thesis was a  collection of short fiction, directed by author and professor Paul Griner.
  •         Trained in graphic recording and facilitation with Christina Merkley, of MakeMark.

Though she has a knack for humorous, sarcastic, and insightful essays, she finds joy in all kinds of writing and word nerdery and has participated successfully in all of the following:

  • Newsletter creation
  • Letter writing
  • Book, blog and academic paper editing
  • Articles based on interviews
  • Academic paper writing and editing
  • Writing medical and health insurance-related materials
  • Advertising copy, including radio spots, podcast scripts, and print copy
  • Blogging
  • Spelling bees, grammar games, and crossword puzzles
These experiences have allowed Sara to have an vast array of writing tools at her disposal - whatever writing project she comes across is fair game.

Sara is also a voracious reader. Her favorite authors include David Foster Wallace, Neil Gaiman, Jane Austen, Flannery O'Connor, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. She currently has enormous stacks of unread books littering her home.

Sara's creativity doesn't stop with a word processor and laser printer. She enjoys crochet, ballroom dancing, collage and drawing. She makes her home in Louisville, Kentucky, with her husband and a business of ferrets.

In her mumblemumble years of working, Sara has been a babysitter, nerd camp counselor, ice cream scoop artist, corporate peon, copywriter, dog walker, and dance teacher. She has had ice cream flung at her, learned the salsa, and used words like "ideation" on a regular basis. By far, her favorite job is anything that involves writing. (Although, nerd camp counselor is a very close second.)

Sara's dream is to be published in the following publications. (If you are a representative of some kind for these publications you are most welcomed to extend offers to her.)
  • Vanity Fair
  • McSweeney's
  • Paste
  • National Geographic
  • The Utne Reader
  • Real Simple
  • Elle
  • Vogue
  • Cooking Light
